How do you calculate words per minute?
Divide the number of words by the time in minutes. 300 words in 2 minutes is 150 WPM. For a time in seconds, multiply the words by 60 and divide by the seconds.
What is a good speaking speed?
For most listeners, about 130 to 160 words per minute feels natural. Short-form video often runs faster, 160 to 190, because energy keeps people watching, but being understood matters more than speed.
How many words per minute do people speak?
Everyday conversation usually lands between 120 and 160 words per minute. Audiobooks are often read at around 150 to 160, and presentations tend to be slower.
Is reading speed the same as speaking speed?
No. Reading silently is much faster, often 200 to 300 words per minute. This tool measures reading out loud, which is close to how you speak on camera.
